Porcelain Veneers
Made in a Dental Laboratory
Porcelain veneers, sometimes called ceramic veneers, are made in a dental laboratory to fit your tooth exactly. More translucent, so they catch light the way natural enamel does, and they resist staining better than composite. Usually two visits.
Good for: longest-lasting results, front teeth, stain resistance.
Composite Veneers
Built Up in One Visit
Built directly on the tooth in a single appointment using tooth-colored resin. Less of the tooth surface is removed, and they can be repaired if chipped.
Good for: smaller corrections, a lower initial cost, one visit.

What Veneers Fix, and What They Don’t

Veneers aren’t right for everything. If a tooth is badly damaged, a crown is the stronger option because it covers the whole tooth. If your teeth are significantly out of line, orthodontics moves them rather than covering them, and that usually gives a better result than veneers.

The route depends on which type you choose. Porcelain takes two appointments because the veneers are made in a laboratory; composite is done chairside in one.

Porcelain, Two Visits
Shaped, Impressed, Then Bonded
First visit: we remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of the tooth, take an impression, and fit a temporary. The lab makes your veneers to match the shade of the teeth either side.
Second visit: we check the fit and color before bonding them in place permanently.
Composite, One Visit
Shaped Directly on the Tooth
The resin is shaped directly onto your tooth, cured, and polished in a single appointment. No laboratory, no temporary, and you leave with the finished result.

Does Insurance Cover Veneers?
Most dental insurance treats veneers as cosmetic and won’t contribute, though there are exceptions where a veneer restores a damaged tooth rather than just improving its appearance. We’ll check your plan and tell you where you stand.
