What To Expect at Your Dental Visit
Upon your arrival at Icon Dental Center, please notify our receptionist. We can’t wait to welcome you to our office.
Any Questions?
At your first visit,
Dr. Joanna Valentine,
Dr. Nadia Aboulhosn, or one of their dental technicians will review your questions and concerns. This is the time to mention any toothaches you get eating or drinking, if you feel you clench your jaw during your sleep, or if you regularly have bad breath. Even mentioning your daily stress levels and possible health concerns might have a bearing on how we perform our dental exam or after-care suggestions.
Just as you should be open and honest with your general physician, you should be open with your dentist. Many patients are apprehensive about seeing the dentist, but this shouldn’t be the case! Talk to us and be honest. We want to make your teeth, gums, and mouth look their best!
Cleanings and Follow-ups
Dr. Valentine, Dr. Aboulhosn, or a hygienist will perform a thorough cleaning on every surface of your teeth. This usually consists of a high-powered electric toothbrush, and sometimes a tool called a Cavitron. We check your risk for tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease, as well as remove stains and bacteria deposits on and between your teeth. We address any detected problems and give recommendations for toothpastes, bite guards, or other dental needs. If you have any questions about routine dental upkeep or prescribed after-care, please ask. Our practice staff will schedule any needed follow-up appointments.
X-rays
X-rays are an important element of dentistry, but they are
not needed at every visit. X-rays help Dr. Valentine and Dr. Aboulhosn see your bite, any cavities or dental fillings you might have, and other possible concerns. We conduct a full dental exam with the knowledge garnered from the X-rays. We utilize the most advanced, safest X-ray technology available. Read more
