Why Patients Choose Us
A Periodontist Under the Same Roof
Most general dental practices refer gum disease cases out to a specialist across town. Ours is in the building.
- Specialist care without a referral
- Early cases treated by your own dentist, advanced cases by the periodontist
- The full range, from a deep clean through to grafting and regenerative surgery
- A written estimate before treatment starts
Your Periodontist
Treated at the Right Level
Dr. Betsy Mosquera is our in-house periodontist, with over 20 years of experience and periodontal training from Saint Louis University. Early gum disease is handled by your own dentist. More advanced cases go straight to her, with no waiting for a referral appointment elsewhere.
No Surprises
A Written Estimate Before Treatment
You’ll know what stage you’re at, what the treatment involves, and what it costs before anything starts.
Signs to Watch For
How to Tell If You Have Gum Disease
Gum disease often causes no pain until it’s advanced, which is why it’s so commonly missed. The early signs are easy to dismiss:
- Gums that bleed when you brush or floss
- Bad breath that doesn’t go away
- Red, swollen or tender gums
- Gums pulling back so teeth look longer
- Teeth that feel slightly loose
- Discomfort when chewing
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth being seen. Gum disease doesn’t resolve on its own, and treatment gets more involved the longer it’s left.
Treatment
How We Treat Gum Disease
Which treatment you need depends on how far the disease has progressed. Most people need the first one on this list and nothing more.
- Deep cleaning treats early to moderate gum disease
- Surgery is for pockets too deep for a deep clean to resolve
- Grafting rebuilds gum and bone that has already been lost
- Treatment is done under local anesthetic
- After treatment, most patients move to cleanings every three to four months
Deep Cleaning
Scaling and Root Planing
The most common treatment, and often the only one needed. We clean below the gumline where a normal cleaning can’t reach, then smooth the root surfaces so the gums can reattach. Usually done in sections, with local anesthetic.
Treats: early to moderate gum disease.
Surgical Care
Periodontal Surgery and Grafting
When pockets are too deep for a deep clean to resolve, periodontal surgery lifts the gum, cleans the root and bone properly, and repositions the gum to fit closely again.
Where recession has exposed roots or infection has destroyed bone, grafting rebuilds what has been lost. That also prepares a site for an implant where a tooth cannot be saved.
Treats: moderate to advanced periodontitis.
Cost & Payment
What Does Gum Disease Treatment Cost?
It depends entirely on the stage. A deep clean costs a fraction of surgical treatment, which is the strongest argument for coming in early.
What affects the price:
- How advanced the gum disease is
- How much of the mouth needs treating, since deep cleaning is priced per quadrant
- Whether surgery or grafting is needed, priced per area or per tooth
- Whether any teeth need other treatment first
We’ll give you a written estimate before any work starts.
Does Insurance Cover It?
Usually, at least in part. Most dental insurance treats gum disease as necessary rather than cosmetic, so plans generally contribute, often substantially for deep cleaning. We’ll check your specific plan and tell you where you stand.

Please note: We do not accept DSHS, Apple Care, Apple Health, or Provider One dental insurance plans.
Paying the Balance
We offer CareCredit and can arrange payment in installments.
Not sure what stage you’re at?
Come in and we’ll assess your gums, tell you what we find, and set out what treatment would involve.

Frequently Asked Questions
Gingivitis, the early stage, can be fully reversed. Periodontitis can’t be reversed, because lost bone doesn’t grow back, but it can be stopped and managed. That’s why catching it early matters.
Scaling and root planing. We clean below the gumline where a normal cleaning can’t reach, then smooth the root surfaces so your gums can reattach. Usually done with local anesthetic.
Deep cleaning is done under local anesthetic. Some sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal. Surgical treatment is also numbed throughout.
Usually, at least in part. Gum disease treatment is generally classed as necessary rather than cosmetic, so most plans contribute. We’ll check yours before you commit.
Early gum disease is handled well by a general dentist. Deep pockets, recession, loose teeth, or gum disease that keeps coming back are reasons to see a specialist. We have one here, so you won’t be referred elsewhere.
After active treatment, most patients move to a maintenance schedule of cleanings every three to four months rather than the usual six.
